It was their first visit to West Sussex and, as you can imagine, I was more than pleased when they said what a great place West Sussex was to visit with so much to do - they just couldn’t understand why they had never discovered it before!
It made me realise how important our Beautiful Outdoors Campaign is to promote the very many delights of our county. It’s all about encouraging people to explore the beautiful outdoors in West Sussex – either through walking or cycling.
But for us this campaign isn’t just about attracting new people to West Sussex, it’s also about involving our residents. That’s why our new website features the stories and pictures of people who are out and about enjoying our great outdoors all the time. It already features lovely stories from walkers, cyclists and families sharing their favourite routes and paths and more are being added every day as people really embrace the idea.
But we’d like even more stories. That’s why, this August, we’re going all out and asking all our residents and visitors to share with us their favourite walk or bike ride. We’re even offering a few great prizes to sweeten the deal.
After all, we’re now in the summer holiday season and many people are visiting West Sussex for the holidays – and who wouldn’t? According to Trip Advisor there are more than 298 entries of places of interest.
So, whether it is the beautiful sandy beaches to laze on, amazing countryside to walk in or cycle trails to ride on, there’s something for everyone. And for those who love culture, we’ve got lots to pique your interest, too. We’re lucky to have some stunningly beautiful houses and gardens to see, and then there’s our rich colourful history from the Romans right through to modern times.
And for those who like their wine and champagne we have some excellent established vineyards producing good wine giving the French a run for their money! And when you’re out and about, you’re never far from a fabulous café, restaurant or pub all offering up mouthwatering (and in many cases, local as well) dishes celebrating our wonderful part of the world.
Encouraging more people to visit West Sussex all goes a long way to helping the small or sometimes micro businesses who make up part of our vital local economy and we need them to thrive and grow. We have some excellent small artisan food producers, many who can be found at the many farmers’ markets across the County, producing some delicious food from pies to marshmallows and everything in between.
Yes this is a bit of a promote West Sussex post but why shouldn’t I with the myriads of wonderful places to visit and things to do set in some amazing landscape it is the one of best places to visit short or long.
Please help us shout about our wonderful area by getting involved in our campaign. Sharing your pictures and stories couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is email firstname.lastname@example.org, or Facebook us at Facebook/GoWestSussex. Someone will win a prize every single week – kindly donated by our local businesses – and be entered into a grand prize draw to win a state of the art Cycle GPS system.
